Hi :)
My name is Alex Xavier, a filmmaker from Kerala, India.
For the last five years, I have been working on a non-fiction film project which I have come to think of as a no-script 'lived-experience filmmaking'. In its essence, it is a non-fiction film based on the immediate realities around an individual's personal life. It is made with real life footage captured in a spontaneous manner without a script or preplanning, over a period of time ranging from days to years, using a portable video camera such as in a mobile phone.
Although it sounds very similar to the diarist avant-garde approach pioneered by filmmakers such as Jonas Mekas and Stan Brakhage, I also came to realize it isn't exactly avant-garde in its core philosophy. There are similarities, also with the cinema-verite movement, but there are some fundamental differences too. I view this approach as a merging of two seemingly opposing philosophies - the no-script approach of avant-garde and the narrative realism of Hollywood.
In this website I share my thoughts, a few videos, and what I have come to understand in the last five years of shooting almost every single day. Also I share the story behind 'Little Human Tales', my film in progress (as well as a few of my pen illustrations, if you are interested in drawings).
I will be glad to hear from you if you wish to know more,
Thank you for visiting!!
Alex Xavier
